The short answer
ArcticPoint HVAC Repair diagnoses and repairs gas furnaces in Monte Sereno homes and offers 24/7 emergency service. Bay Area Air District rules do not require you to replace a working furnace, so repair is often a sensible choice. If replacement makes more sense, we explain how the 2029 zero-NOx furnace standard affects your options.
When your furnace quits on a cold, damp Monte Sereno night, you want it diagnosed correctly and fixed without guesswork. ArcticPoint HVAC Repair sends technicians from our San Jose base, about 11 miles east, to repair gas furnaces and the air handlers and ductwork that go with them. We find the actual cause, explain it in plain terms, and give you a clear choice between repairing what you have and planning for something new. We also offer 24/7 emergency service when the heat goes out at a bad time.
How Furnaces Get Used in Monte Sereno
The Santa Clara Valley has a Mediterranean climate: dry summers and mild, damp winters. That means many Monte Sereno furnaces sit idle for months and then run in short bursts on chilly mornings and evenings. Equipment that runs this way tends to show problems at the first cold snap of the season, when dust has settled on burners, igniters have weakened, and filters have been forgotten since spring.
Damp winter air can also affect furnaces installed in crawl spaces, garages, or attics, where moisture contributes to corrosion on burners, flue connections, and electrical contacts. On larger or multi-level homes, it is common to see one zone heat well while another stays cold, which usually points to airflow, duct, or control issues rather than a failed furnace.
Furnace Problems We Repair
Most no-heat calls trace back to a handful of components. We test each part of the heating sequence instead of swapping parts until something works.
- Furnace runs but blows cool or lukewarm air
- Igniter glows or clicks but burners will not light
- Burners light, then shut off after a few seconds (often a dirty flame sensor)
- Blower motor that will not start, hums, or runs nonstop
- Short cycling, where the furnace turns on and off repeatedly
- Tripped limit switches caused by clogged filters or restricted ducts
- Unusual noises such as banging at startup, squealing, or rattling
- Thermostat wiring or control board faults
- Weak airflow to certain rooms or floors
What to Expect From a Repair Visit
We start by asking what you have noticed: when the problem began, what sounds or smells came with it, and whether it happens every cycle or only sometimes. Then we check the thermostat, filter, gas supply, ignition, flame sensor, safety switches, blower, and venting. Safety comes first. If we find signs of a cracked heat exchanger, a venting problem, or a gas issue, we will tell you directly and explain what it means for operating the furnace.
Before any work begins, you get a clear explanation of what failed and what we recommend. If the repair is straightforward, we can often complete it the same visit. If the furnace has deeper problems, we lay out the tradeoffs so you can decide without pressure.
Repair or Replace? Know the Local Rules
Many homeowners have heard that Bay Area rules are phasing out gas furnaces. Here is what matters. The Bay Area Air District appliance rules do not require you to replace working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace fails or is replaced. Repairing your current furnace keeps you fully within the rules.
Under Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, that points homeowners toward heat pumps when a furnace is replaced after that date. If your furnace is aging and repairs are adding up, it may be worth planning ahead rather than waiting for a midwinter failure.
On incentives: the federal 25C tax credit covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025, and is not available for new installations after that date. BayREN and your local clean energy provider may offer heat pump and electrification incentives, but amounts change by funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before including it in any quote.
